Khushab District in the Sargodha Division of Punjab is unusually varied for a single district. The city of Khushab sits on the Jhelum River, and the district headquarters at Jauharabad lies close by on the plains. To the north rise the hills of the Salt Range and the Soon Valley, known for its lakes and cooler climate, while to the south the land opens into the sandy Thal around Noorpur Thal. Across this landscape you find flat RCC houses and shop rows in Khushab and Jauharabad, older brick homes in the old city, farmhouses on irrigated land along the river, stone-walled houses in hill villages, and storage buildings for wheat and other crops.
Each of these environments stresses roofs differently. On the plains, summer temperatures often exceed 45°C and monsoon storms arrive suddenly. In the Thal, sand and large day-night temperature swings crack slabs and block outlets. In the Salt Range and Soon Valley, winters are noticeably colder, rain is more frequent, and freezing nights can widen cracks. Wellcool’s Khushab roof waterproofing service starts with a free inspection so we can match the system to your roof and location — from reflective elastomeric membranes for hot plains roofs to tougher polyurethane systems for roofs exposed to cold, wet winters. Where heat is the bigger problem, we combine waterproofing with roof heatproofing.
Understanding where your property is located in Khushab District helps explain why your roof leaks and what will fix it. On the river plains around Khushab city and Jauharabad, the main enemies are intense summer heat and short, heavy monsoon storms. The slab expands and contracts strongly, cracks form at parapets and across the roof, and water then pours through them during July and August storms. Humidity during the monsoon also keeps walls damp for longer.
In the Thal areas to the south, rainfall is lower but conditions are harsher on materials. Sand abrasion, dust buildup at outlets and big temperature differences between day and night all shorten the life of coatings. In the Salt Range and Soon Valley, summers are milder but winters are cold, with more frequent rain and occasional frosty nights. Water that seeps into small cracks can expand when it freezes, gradually widening them. Roofs here also catch wind-driven rain, so parapets and walls take more punishment. A system that is perfect for one of these zones is not always ideal for another, which is why we never apply a one-size-fits-all solution.
Across our inspections in the district, these are the problems that come up most often:
We waterproof residential houses of all sizes, from single-storey homes in the old city to newer double-storey houses in Jauharabad. We also work on shop rows and small commercial plazas, schools, clinics and mosques, and agricultural buildings such as grain stores, sheds and tube-well rooms. In the hill areas we treat houses with stone or block walls and both flat and lightly sloped roofs. For metal-roofed workshops and stores we offer sealing plus industrial shed heatproofing.
You do not need to wait for water to drip into a room. Look for these early warnings:
On flat RCC roofs in Khushab and Jauharabad, a fabric-reinforced elastomeric membrane with a white finish offers excellent value. It bridges hairline cracks, moves with the slab through summer heat, and reflects sunlight to keep the top floor cooler. It is the core of our reflective roof coating work.
In the Soon Valley and Salt Range, and on busy commercial roofs, a polyurethane system provides superior elasticity at low temperatures and strong resistance to standing water. It is finished with a UV-stable top coat.
For roofs and terraces that will be tiled or screeded, a polymer-modified cementitious coat provides a durable, well-bonded barrier. It is also used for water tanks and wet areas.
Traditional brick-tile roofs can often be rehabilitated by resetting tiles, filling joints and applying a breathable waterproof coating, or by lifting tiles to waterproof the base before relaying.
For houses in Khushab city, Jauharabad, Quaidabad and the Thal, the heat that comes through the roof in summer is often as big a complaint as leaks. Since the roof is already being cleaned and repaired for waterproofing, adding heat protection costs far less than doing it separately later. A reflective top coat is the simplest step; for very hot top floors we can install roof heat insulation beneath the waterproofing membrane or provide a complete cool roof treatment. Keeping the slab cooler also reduces thermal cracking, so the waterproofing lasts longer.

On the plains, clean the roof and outlets in early summer, after dust storms and again before the monsoon. Check after the first heavy rain for ponding or damp patches. In the Thal, keep sand from piling up at parapets and outlets. In the Salt Range and Soon Valley, inspect the roof in autumn before winter rains, clear leaves and make sure gutters on sloped sections are free; after a cold spell, look for new cracks. Everywhere in the district, keep the reflective top coat in good condition and have any new fixtures sealed properly.
Homeowners often ask whether they must vacate the house during work — usually not; roof work is done from above and does not disturb rooms, apart from some noise during surface preparation. Others ask about water tanks and solar panels; we work around them, and seal bases and anchors as part of the job. Many ask how long the roof will be out of use; typically a few days for drying and curing between coats, depending on the weather and system.
We also offer bathroom waterproofing, water tank waterproofing, wall and ceiling waterproofing, dampness solutions for older riverside homes, terrace waterproofing and exterior wall painting.
Wellcool also serves Sargodha, Mianwali, Bhakkar, Chakwal, Jhelum and Mandi Bahauddin. See our locations page for more.
Homes close to the Jhelum and along irrigation channels often deal with moisture from two directions at once: rain entering from the roof and groundwater rising into the walls. The symptoms can look similar — peeling paint, white salt deposits, crumbling plaster and a musty smell — so it is easy to spend money on the wrong fix. During our inspection we check where the damp pattern starts. Stains that begin at the ceiling and spread downward usually point to the roof or parapet. Damp that starts at floor level and climbs a metre or so up the wall, often with a tide mark, points to rising damp. If both are present, we tackle them together through roof waterproofing and our dampness and seepage solutions, so the walls can finally dry out and repainting lasts.
In the Salt Range villages and the Soon Valley, some houses have sloped sections, verandah roofs or porches alongside flat slabs. These need different detailing. Water runs faster off a slope and concentrates at the edge where it meets the flat roof or gutter, so that junction is a frequent leak point. Corrugated or sheet roofs on verandahs leak at screw holes and overlaps as metal expands and contracts. For these properties we seal fasteners and overlaps, reinforce valleys and junctions with fabric-embedded membrane, and make sure gutters and downpipes are sized for winter rain. On flat slabs in the hills we pay special attention to cracks that may have widened through freezing and thawing, opening and sealing them properly before coating.
A surprising number of leaks we repair in Khushab come from previous quick fixes. Common errors include applying a single thin coat of waterproof paint and calling it a membrane, pouring cement slurry over cracks so they reopen within months, leaving parapet joints untreated, and coating over dust, algae or loose plaster that the new layer cannot grip. Another frequent issue is laying new tiles or screed directly on a leaking slab without any waterproof layer, which simply hides the problem until water appears in the room below. A proper job always includes thorough preparation, crack treatment, joint reinforcement and the correct membrane thickness — the steps that make waterproofing last.
Much of Khushab District depends on farming, and a leaking store can ruin a season’s wheat or damage fertiliser and equipment. Farm roofs tend to be wide, low-sloped and rarely maintained, with dust and bird nests blocking outlets. We clean and regrade drainage, seal cracks and joints, and apply a tough reflective membrane that keeps stored goods dry and the interior cooler during hot months.

Often, yes. The Soon Valley and Salt Range have colder winters and more frequent rain, so we prefer systems that remain flexible in cold weather and pay extra attention to parapets, wind-driven rain and any sloped sections. We decide the system after inspecting the roof.
A reflective membrane reduces the heat absorbed by the roof, and most homes on the plains feel the difference. For maximum effect we can add insulation under the waterproofing. We explain the expected benefit of each option during the inspection.
Spring and autumn are ideal on the plains, and late spring to early autumn in the hill areas, avoiding the coldest weeks. Coatings need dry weather to cure, so we schedule around rain. Urgent leak repairs can be done whenever conditions allow.
Not always. If the rest of the roof is sound, sealing the tank base, pipes and the surrounding area may be enough. We inspect the entire roof and will tell you if a local repair is sufficient or if wider waterproofing is advisable.
Only if it is still firmly bonded and in good condition. Cracked, brittle or blistered bitumen is removed, because new layers would fail along with it. We test the existing layer on site before recommending anything.
