Less radiant heat on staff
Cooler storage for goods
Metal-sheet sheds are everywhere in Pakistan’s industrial and agricultural economy: textile units in Faisalabad, warehouses along the GT Road, cold-chain loading bays in Lahore, workshops in Gujranwala and Sialkot, and poultry and dairy sheds across rural Punjab and KPK. They are quick and economical to build, but thin steel sheets offer almost no resistance to heat. Under the summer sun, an uncoated or dull metal roof can become extremely hot, and that heat radiates straight down onto workers, machines, livestock and stored goods. Inside, temperatures can climb far above outdoor air, reducing productivity, increasing health risks and damaging heat-sensitive products.
Industrial shed heatproofing tackles this problem with solutions designed specifically for metal roofs. Wellcool applies rust-inhibiting primers and reflective elastomeric coatings on top of the sheets, installs insulation beneath the roof where required, seals overlaps, fasteners and ridge caps against leakage, and improves ventilation where possible. Each project is planned around your operations, so production, storage or livestock care can continue with minimum disruption while the roof is treated section by section.
Steel is an excellent conductor of heat and roofing sheets are only a fraction of a millimetre thick. When sunlight strikes a metal roof, the sheet heats up within minutes, and almost all of that heat passes straight through to the underside. The hot underside then radiates heat downward like a giant heater. Older galvanised sheets lose their shine as the zinc oxidises, and dusty or rusted surfaces absorb even more sunlight. Because sheds usually have no ceiling, nothing stops the radiant heat from reaching people, animals and goods directly below.
On top of this, many sheds have poor ventilation. Hot air rises and gets trapped under the roof, creating a hot layer that keeps building through the day. Machinery, lighting and occupants add their own heat. The combination can make working conditions extremely uncomfortable and even dangerous during heatwaves.
Consider shed heatproofing if you experience:
Primers and coatings designed for steel sheets.
Planned access on fragile and sloped roofs.
Section-by-section work around operations.
Fasteners, laps and ridges sealed together.
After cleaning and treating rust, we apply a primer suitable for galvanised or painted steel, followed by multiple coats of white reflective elastomeric coating. This reduces the heat absorbed by the sheet, protects it from corrosion and seals small holes. It is one of the fastest ways to reduce the radiant heat felt inside a shed.
Insulation such as foil-faced bubble insulation, foam sheets or mineral wool with a facing can be installed under the roof sheets or on purlins. It blocks radiant heat and slows conduction. It is particularly useful where indoor temperature control is important or where the shed is partially air-conditioned.
For maximum insulation and leak sealing in one layer, sprayed polyurethane foam can be applied over the sheets and protected with a UV-resistant reflective coating. It forms a seamless layer over screws and overlaps, reducing both heat and leakage.
Leaking screws, lifted overlaps and gaps at ridge caps let in rain and dust. We seal these with compatible sealants and reinforcing tape before coating, so the heatproofing layer also works as a reliable weather barrier.
Heatproofing works best with good ventilation. Where suitable, we advise on ridge vents, turbo ventilators or wall openings to let trapped hot air escape, complementing the reduced heat from the roof.
Inspect sheets, rust, fasteners, gutters and structure.
Schedule sections around production or livestock.
Set up walkways and fall protection on the roof.
Wash, wire brush and prime rusted areas.
Seal laps and screws, then apply reflective coats.
Check coverage, leaks and insulation finish.
Each type of shed has its own priorities. Warehouses and godowns need stable conditions to protect goods such as grain, rice, sugar, fertiliser, textiles, packaging and FMCG products. Workshops and fabrication units need better conditions for workers who are already exposed to heat from machines and welding. Poultry sheds and dairy farms need to reduce heat stress on animals, which directly affects health and productivity. Cold storage loading areas and pre-cooling zones benefit from reduced heat load to save energy. We tailor the heatproofing system to the use of the shed, balancing coating, insulation and ventilation.
Heat is not the only enemy of a metal shed. Moisture, monsoon rain, dust and industrial fumes all accelerate rust, especially at screw holes, overlaps and gutter lines. Once rust breaks through, sheets begin to leak and eventually need replacement, which is costly and disruptive. A properly primed and coated roof slows this corrosion dramatically. By treating rust spots, sealing fasteners and covering the entire sheet with a protective reflective film, shed heatproofing also extends the life of the roof sheets.
In winter mornings, warm, humid air inside sheds can condense on the cold underside of metal sheets, dripping onto stock and machinery. This is common in livestock sheds and food storage. Under-sheet insulation with a proper vapour facing or sprayed foam reduces this condensation by keeping the underside of the roof closer to indoor temperature. Addressing both heat and condensation creates a more stable, dry environment throughout the year.
Metal and fibre-cement roofs can be fragile, slippery and steep. Translucent skylight sheets are especially dangerous because they may not support body weight. Our team plans safe walking routes along purlin lines, uses crawl boards where needed and avoids working on wet or very hot sheets. Safety planning protects our workers, your staff and your roof from damage during the job.

Cooler sheds offer clear business advantages:
We understand that most sheds cannot simply close for a week. Our team works in sections, coordinates with your management on which areas to treat each day, and can schedule early-morning work to avoid both peak heat and peak production hours. For livestock sheds we plan to minimise noise and disturbance. Clear communication ensures the work proceeds smoothly while your business keeps running.
Not every shed has steel sheets. Many older sheds and farm buildings use corrugated fibre-cement sheets, which can be brittle, porous and prone to cracking. These need gentle cleaning, crack sealing and primers suited to cement-based surfaces before a reflective coating is applied. Walking on these sheets requires extra care. We assess the condition of the sheets and advise whether coating is practical or whether damaged sheets should be replaced first.
Blocked or rusted gutters cause water to back up under sheets and into walls during heavy rain. While we are on the roof, we can clean gutters, seal joints and coat gutter lines to protect them from rust. Proper rainwater management protects both the heatproofing system and the building structure.

Inside a metal shed, people often feel much hotter than a thermometer suggests. This is because of radiant heat: the hot underside of the roof sheets emits infrared energy that warms skin, machinery and goods directly, just as standing in sunlight feels hotter than standing in shade at the same air temperature. Fans move air but do little to stop this radiation, which is why workers under a hot roof still feel heat pressing down from above. Reflective coatings reduce the temperature of the sheet itself, so it radiates far less heat. Foil-faced insulation under the sheets adds another barrier by reflecting radiant heat back upward. Tackling radiant heat is often the single biggest improvement in comfort for staff working under a metal roof.
Many sheds use translucent sheets for daylight. These save electricity on lighting but can also let in a lot of solar heat, and they age, yellow and become brittle over time. During heatproofing we avoid coating over translucent sheets that you want to keep, and we advise whether older, damaged skylight sheets should be replaced with newer, UV-stable versions. Balancing daylight and heat is part of planning an effective shed treatment.
After treatment, keep gutters clear, avoid unnecessary foot traffic on the roof, and inspect the surface after storms. If new equipment such as exhaust fans, chimneys or solar panels is installed, ensure fixings are sealed and the coating is repaired around them. Dust from industrial processes can settle on the roof, so periodic washing helps maintain reflectivity. Over the years, a maintenance top coat can restore performance without repeating the full process.
From textile and food processing units in Faisalabad and Multan to warehouses around Lahore, Sheikhupura and Gujranwala, logistics depots near Islamabad and Rawalpindi, and agricultural sheds across KPK, Wellcool can survey and treat industrial sheds throughout our service areas. Each region brings different challenges such as dust, humidity or industrial fumes, which we consider when selecting materials.
In many sheds, the side walls are also metal cladding, and west-facing walls can heat up strongly in the afternoon. The same reflective coatings used on the roof can be applied to wall sheets to reduce heat gain from the sides. Combined with roof treatment, this creates a more evenly cool interior and protects wall sheets from rust as well.

It is a set of treatments for metal or fibre-cement roofed sheds that reduce the heat entering the building. Typically it includes rust treatment, reflective coating on the sheets, sealing of fasteners and overlaps and, where needed, insulation under the roof or sprayed foam on top.
Yes, with the right preparation. Galvanised surfaces need cleaning and a suitable primer for good adhesion. We then apply reflective elastomeric coatings designed for metal, which flex with the high thermal movement of steel sheets.
Our process includes sealing screws, overlaps, ridges and small holes before coating, which solves most common leaks. Badly corroded or broken sheets may need replacing first. We identify these during inspection.
Yes. We work section by section and plan schedules with your management to minimise disruption. Early-morning work is often preferred in summer for both safety and comfort.
For many sheds, a reflective coating gives a large improvement. Insulation is recommended where indoor temperature control is critical, where the shed is air-conditioned, or where condensation is a problem. We advise based on your use.
Yes. Reducing radiant heat from the roof lowers heat stress on animals. Combined with good ventilation and cooling systems, roof heatproofing can make livestock sheds noticeably more comfortable in summer.
