Designers call the ceiling the “fifth wall” because it is the largest uninterrupted surface in most rooms, yet it is usually left plain white. In Pakistani homes, where ceilings are often high and rooms are designed for gatherings, an artistic ceiling design can transform the entire atmosphere — a soft blue sky with drifting clouds in a child’s room, a glowing starry night above a bed, a richly patterned medallion above a dining table chandelier, or intricate Mughal-style floral borders in a drawing room. Historic buildings such as Wazir Khan Mosque and the Lahore Fort show how beautiful painted ceilings can be; today, the same idea can be brought into modern homes, restaurants, hotels and offices.
Wellcool designs and paints artistic ceilings across Punjab, KPK and Islamabad. Ceilings in Pakistan face particular risks — roof leaks, monsoon seepage and heat from flat RCC roofs — so we inspect carefully before painting. Where needed we fix the cause through roof waterproofing or heatproofing, then prepare and prime the ceiling and paint the artwork using safe access equipment.
An artistic ceiling changes how a room feels in a way that wall décor cannot. Light colours and open sky designs make low rooms feel taller and airier. Rich patterns and deeper colours make large, high-ceilinged halls feel more intimate and luxurious. A painted ceiling also draws attention upward, highlighting chandeliers, fans and architectural features such as domes, coffers and false-ceiling bulkheads.
Ceiling art is also practical. Unlike walls, ceilings are rarely touched, scuffed or covered by furniture, so artwork stays in excellent condition when the surface beneath is sound. It is a long-term investment that adds personality to a home, and it can become a signature feature for restaurants, hotels and event venues.
Our clients choose from a wide variety of ceiling styles:
Many Pakistani ceilings have hidden problems that must be fixed before any artwork. Look for:
We understand leaks, seepage and heat from flat RCC roofs.
Scaffolding and platforms for comfortable, safe overhead painting.
Experience painting detailed artwork overhead with precision.
Full floor and furniture protection from drips and dust.
We layer several tones of blue and white, blending them wet-on-wet with brushes, sponges and airbrush to create a natural gradient from deeper blue at the edges to lighter tones at the centre. Clouds are built up with soft highlights and shadows for a realistic, three-dimensional look.
For geometric, Mughal and Moroccan patterns, we mark precise centre lines and grids on the ceiling using lasers and chalk lines, then use stencils and hand painting to create symmetrical designs. Accurate layout is essential because any misalignment overhead is very visible.
Starry ceilings use dark blue or black bases, airbrushed nebula colours and fine stars of different sizes. Glow-in-the-dark or UV-reactive paints can be added so stars shine softly when lights are switched off — popular in bedrooms and children’s rooms.
For luxurious dome and medallion designs, we use metallic paints or gilding to highlight borders, rosettes and calligraphy, catching the light from chandeliers.
Gypsum and board false ceilings can be painted with artwork too. We seal joints and screw heads properly so lines do not appear through the design, and coordinate patterns with cove lighting and recessed lights.
We check for leaks, cracks, stains and heat issues from the roof.
Sketches or mock-ups showing the ceiling design and colours.
Leak sources fixed, cracks filled, stains sealed and primer applied.
Scaffolding set up, floors and furniture covered.
Layout, base colours, artwork and detailing painted overhead.
Touch-ups under room lighting, cleanup and handover.
Top-floor ceilings in Pakistan are under a flat RCC roof that bakes in 45–50°C summer heat and takes heavy monsoon rain. Water finds its way through cracks, failed waterproofing, blocked drains and parapet joints, appearing on the ceiling below as stains, peeling paint and dampness. Painting artwork over such a ceiling is a waste of money — the next heavy rain will ruin it.
Because Wellcool is also a roof waterproofing and heatproofing company, we can diagnose and fix the cause properly. Depending on what we find, we may recommend roof waterproofing, roof leakage repair or roof heatproofing before painting. Heatproofing also reduces the thermal movement that causes ceiling cracks and makes top-floor rooms more comfortable, protecting the artwork and your family.
Bedrooms: Soft skies, gentle clouds or starry night designs create a calm, restful atmosphere. Glow-in-the-dark stars are a favourite for children and teenagers.
Drawing and dining rooms: Medallions around chandeliers, Mughal-inspired floral borders or geometric patterns add elegance and draw attention to the light fixture.
Lounges and family rooms: Subtle colour-block designs, borders that frame cove lighting or a soft sky in a recessed false-ceiling panel work well.
Prayer rooms and entrances: Islamic geometric patterns and calligraphy around a central dome or panel create a serene, spiritual feel.
Restaurants, cafés and halls: Bold themed ceilings — vines, lanterns, truck-art motifs or sky domes — become memorable signature features.
Painted ceilings need very little maintenance because they are rarely touched. Dust fans and light fittings regularly so dust is not spread onto the ceiling. In kitchens and dining areas, use exhaust fans to reduce oil and smoke buildup. Watch for any new water stains after the monsoon and report them quickly so the cause can be treated before it damages the artwork. Ensure roof drains are kept clear before the rainy season. With a sound roof above it, your ceiling art can stay beautiful for many years.

Pakistan has one of the richest traditions of ceiling art in the world. The interiors of the Wazir Khan Mosque in Lahore are famous for their intricate fresco work, with floral patterns, arabesques and calligraphy covering domes and vaults in deep blues, terracottas and ochres. The Sheesh Mahal in the Lahore Fort uses mirror mosaic and gilded patterns to make ceilings sparkle under candlelight. Old havelis in Lahore, Chiniot, Peshawar and Multan feature painted wooden ceilings with geometric panels and floral motifs. These traditions developed partly for practical reasons: high, decorated ceilings kept rooms cooler and more pleasant during long, hot summers.
Today, many families want to bring a touch of this heritage into modern homes. We take inspiration from these historic designs — the colour palettes, symmetry, star patterns and floral forms — and adapt them to contemporary ceilings, false-ceiling panels and domes, using modern durable paints. The result connects your home with Pakistan’s artistic history while suiting today’s interior styles.
Lighting and ceiling art go hand in hand. Cove lighting around a recessed false-ceiling panel can make a painted sky glow as if lit from behind. A chandelier at the centre of a painted medallion becomes a dramatic focal point. Spotlights should be positioned so they do not create harsh hotspots on detailed artwork. LED strips in warm white enhance gold and earthy tones, while cool white suits skies and starry ceilings. If you are planning electrical work, it is best to complete wiring, fixtures and AC vents before we paint, so the artwork is not disturbed later. We can coordinate with your electrician or interior designer to plan the ceiling as a complete design.
In hospitality spaces, the ceiling is visible from every table and seat. A painted sky in a courtyard-style restaurant, a lantern-filled ceiling in a desi eatery, or an elegant gilded pattern in a marquee or banquet hall creates an unforgettable atmosphere for guests and wedding photos. We plan commercial ceiling work in phases to minimise downtime, and can work nights where needed.
The colour of a ceiling affects how high and how warm a room feels. Pale blues, soft whites and light sky tones visually lift a low ceiling, helping compact flats and modern houses with standard ceiling heights feel more spacious. Darker or warmer ceiling colours — deep navy, terracotta, burgundy or gold — bring a high ceiling down visually, making large drawing rooms and halls feel cosier and more intimate. A painted border a short distance in from the walls can also visually “lower” or “frame” a ceiling. We will suggest a colour approach that suits your room’s proportions and the mood you want.

Not until the source of the leak is fixed. Painting over an active leak will result in new stains and peeling. We inspect the roof, recommend waterproofing or leak repair if needed, allow the ceiling to dry, then seal stains with a stain-blocking primer before painting.
A simple sky ceiling in a bedroom may take a few days, while detailed patterns, domes or large halls can take one to several weeks. Scaffolding, preparation and drying time are included in the schedule we share after the inspection.
Ideally, large furniture should be moved out or to one side because scaffolding is needed. Items that remain are fully covered. We discuss the arrangement during the site visit so the room is safely set up for overhead work.
Yes. We seal joints and screw heads, prime the board and then paint the design. We coordinate the artwork with cove lighting, downlights and AC vents so the finished ceiling looks integrated and neat.
Yes. Glow paints absorb light during the day or from room lights and release a soft glow for some time after lights go off. The effect is gentle and works best in rooms that get reasonable light before bedtime.
Extreme heat causes slab movement and hairline cracks over time, which can affect ceiling paint on top floors. Roof heatproofing reduces this movement and makes rooms cooler. We can advise whether heatproofing is worthwhile before your ceiling art.
We can create designs inspired by Mughal and Islamic ceiling art, adapting patterns and colours to your room’s shape and size. Share reference photos you love, and we will develop a layout and colour scheme for approval.
