Peeling paint at skirting level, white salt crust, fungus in corners and a constant musty smell are signs of moisture inside your walls. Wellcool provides lasting dampness and seepage solutions in Pakistan, treating rising damp, side seepage and leaking pipes at the source instead of repainting over the problem.

Dampness is the most common building complaint we hear from homeowners in Pakistan, and also the most misunderstood. Families spend money on repainting every year, only to see the same patches return within weeks: blistered paint, crumbling plaster, white powdery salts and black mould along the lower walls. The reason is that paint is not the problem. Moisture is moving through the brick and plaster from somewhere, whether it rises from the ground, seeps sideways from a neighbour’s wall, an underground tank or a flower bed, or leaks from hidden bathroom and kitchen pipes. Until that source is stopped, no paint, putty or wallpaper will last. Wellcool offers specialised dampness and seepage solutions for houses, apartments, offices and shops in Lahore, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Multan, Peshawar and across Punjab and KPK.
Our team first identifies which type of moisture is affecting your walls, using moisture meters, the pattern and height of the damage, and a check of plumbing, drains and outside ground levels. We then recommend the right combination of treatments: chemical damp-proof course injection, waterproof renders, plumbing leak repair, external sealing or drainage correction, followed by salt-resistant plaster and breathable finishes. The goal is a dry, healthy wall that holds paint for years.
Rising damp happens when ground moisture climbs up through brick walls by capillary action. Many older houses were built without an effective damp-proof course (DPC), or the original bitumen DPC has failed, or the floor level was raised during renovation so the DPC is now below the floor. The damage usually forms a tide mark 60 cm to 1.2 m above the floor, with salt crystals and peeling paint below it. It is especially common in areas with a high water table such as parts of Lahore, Gujranwala, Sheikhupura and low-lying localities near canals and rivers.
Lateral or side seepage occurs when water pushes sideways through a wall: from a neighbouring house with a wet bathroom, from soil piled against an outer wall, from a lawn or planter, or from an underground water tank. Plumbing seepage comes from cracked or poorly jointed pipes concealed in walls and floors, and from bathroom floors without waterproofing. Finally, condensation forms in poorly ventilated rooms in winter, kitchens and bathrooms, and causes mould on cold surfaces. Each type needs a different solution, and many buildings suffer from two or three at the same time.
Moisture problems announce themselves gradually. Look out for:
We separate rising damp, seepage, pipe leaks and condensation before choosing a treatment.
Chemical damp-proof course injection that creates a moisture barrier without demolishing walls.
Salt-resistant renders and paints that let walls dry out instead of trapping moisture.
We tell you plainly if a plumbing fix or drainage correction is the real answer.
For rising damp, holes are drilled at regular spacing along the base of the wall, just above floor level, and a silane/siloxane-based damp-proofing cream or liquid is injected into the mortar bed. It spreads through the brick pores and cures into a water-repellent band that stops moisture from climbing. This is far less disruptive than cutting a physical DPC into the wall and can be done room by room.
Plaster that has absorbed ground salts for years will keep pulling moisture from the air and will keep pushing paint off, even after the source is stopped. We hack off damaged plaster to at least 30–50 cm above the highest damp mark, clean the brick joints and allow the wall to breathe before re-plastering.
The cleaned wall is replastered with a polymer-modified, waterproof base coat or a salt-retardant renovation plaster, depending on the condition. These renders resist salt migration and moisture far better than ordinary cement-sand plaster, and they are finished with breathable primers and paints rather than oil-based enamels that trap water.
When water pushes through a wall from soil, a neighbour’s property or an underground tank and the outside face cannot be reached, we apply crystalline or cementitious waterproof coatings on the inside face. Crystalline products react with moisture and lime in the concrete or plaster to block capillaries, holding back seepage from the wet side.
If the damp patch sits behind a bathroom, kitchen or water line, we check the pipes and fittings, look for loose joints, cracked elbows and leaking mixer valves, and inspect the bathroom floor for missing waterproofing. Fixing the plumbing and waterproofing the wet area is often the only cure; see our bathroom waterproofing service.
Outside, we lower or slope soil and flower beds away from walls, seal the plinth with waterproof coating, fix broken nali (drain) channels and apply water-repellent treatment on exposed brick. Keeping rainwater away from the base of the wall is one of the cheapest and most effective long-term measures.
Moisture readings, damp pattern, plumbing and outside levels checked.
We identify the damp type and source and give a written treatment plan.
Salt-damaged plaster hacked off and brickwork cleaned.
DPC injection, negative-side coating or plumbing repair as needed.
Waterproof, salt-resistant render applied and properly cured.
Anti-fungal primer and breathable paint for a clean, dry wall.
The cost of fixing dampness depends on what is causing it and how far the damage has spread, so we never quote blindly over the phone. A small patch from a single leaking pipe joint is a very different job from rising damp along every ground-floor wall of an old house. After the inspection you receive a written quote covering exactly the work needed. Key cost factors include:

Damp walls are not only a cosmetic issue. Persistent moisture encourages mould spores and dust mites, which are linked to allergies, sneezing, coughing and worsening of asthma, particularly in children and elderly family members. In winter, damp rooms feel colder and are harder to heat. Mould also damages clothes, books, leather goods and wooden furniture stored against damp walls. Treating the source protects both your building and your family’s health.
Many homeowners in Pakistan treat damp with a fresh coat of distemper or a layer of wall putty, sometimes adding an “anti-seepage” paint on top. For a few weeks the wall looks fine. Then the moisture underneath pushes salts to the surface, the putty softens and the paint blisters again, often worse than before because the new layer traps more water. Waterproof paints on the inside face can even force moisture to climb higher up the wall. Real damp treatment always starts with stopping the water, then removing contaminated plaster, and only then refinishing with materials designed to let the wall breathe.
Dampness is often linked to other building issues. If water is coming from above, see roof leakage repair. For wet rooms, explore bathroom & washroom waterproofing and wall & ceiling waterproofing. The weather in Pakistan has a clear effect on how damp walls behave. During the monsoon from July to September, rainwater saturates the ground and exterior walls, so rising damp and side seepage get noticeably worse and new patches appear within days. In the winter months in Lahore, Islamabad and Peshawar, cold walls and closed windows lead to condensation and mould, especially in bedrooms and bathrooms without exhaust fans. In the dry heat of May and June, walls dry out at the surface and salts crystallise, which is when you see white powder and paint flaking most clearly.
Because of these cycles, the best time to treat dampness is usually after the monsoon has ended or during the dry months before it, when walls can dry and new plaster can cure properly. That said, active pipe leaks should be fixed immediately in any season, since they keep feeding water into the wall every single day.
If you are building or renovating, prevention costs far less than cure. Make sure a proper damp-proof course is laid at plinth level and stays above the finished floor and outside ground. Waterproof all bathroom floors and the first 30 cm of walls before tiling. Keep soil, planters and lawns at least 15 cm below the plinth and slope them away from the house. Use good-quality pipe fittings and pressure-test concealed lines before plastering. Provide exhaust fans in kitchens and bathrooms. Our team can advise on these details during construction so dampness never becomes a problem in the first place.

Rising damp usually shows as an even band along the lower part of several walls with a tide mark and salt deposits. A pipe leak creates a localised patch, often behind a bathroom or kitchen, that may stay wet even in dry weather and can grow quickly. Our moisture survey confirms the source before any work starts.
Yes. Chemical DPC injection only needs small holes drilled along the base of the wall. We do remove damaged, salt-filled plaster, because it will keep spoiling new paint, but the brick wall itself stays in place. Work can usually be done room by room while you live in the house.
New plaster needs time to cure and the wall needs time to dry after the moisture source is stopped. Depending on wall thickness and season, we usually advise waiting several weeks before final painting, and using a breathable paint. Painting too early traps moisture and spoils the finish.
On its own, usually not. Anti-seepage or waterproof paints can help on exterior walls exposed to rain, but on inside walls with rising damp or a leaking pipe, they only hide the problem for a short time. The source must be treated first; paint is the last step, not the cure.
Ideally the neighbour fixes their bathroom or drainage. If that is not possible, we can apply negative-side crystalline or cementitious waterproofing on your side of the wall, along with salt-resistant re-plastering, to hold back the moisture and protect your rooms.
Yes. Basements face constant soil moisture and sometimes water pressure. We assess the walls and floor and apply suitable crystalline, cementitious or injection systems. For full details see our basement waterproofing service page.
