The outer walls of a building take more punishment than any other surface except the roof. In Pakistan, a south- or west-facing wall can heat up to well over 50°C in summer and then be soaked by driving monsoon rain within an hour. Dust storms sandblast the surface, vehicle smoke and industrial pollution stain it, and in areas like Lahore, Faisalabad and Gujranwala, smog and acid deposits slowly attack paint and plaster. Fine cracks open in the plaster, rainwater gets in, and the results show up inside as damp patches, peeling paint and fungus, while outside the façade turns black with algae, the paint fades and chalks, and exposed brick begins to crumble. Wellcool provides specialised exterior wall protection services for houses, apartment blocks, commercial plazas, schools, hospitals and industrial buildings across Punjab, KPK and Islamabad.
Exterior wall protection is more than a fresh coat of paint. It is a system: repairing cracks and damaged plaster, sealing window frames and joints, treating the surface against algae, and applying protective coatings designed to shed water while letting the wall breathe. Depending on the façade, this may be a clear silane-siloxane water repellent on exposed brick or stone, an elastomeric waterproof coating on plaster, or an anti-carbonation coating on concrete. The result is a dry, durable, cleaner wall that protects the interior and keeps your building looking well maintained.
Driving rain during the monsoon and winter storms is pushed into hairline cracks, porous plaster and open joints around windows, AC holes and pipes. Once inside, water travels through the wall and appears as interior damp. Intense UV and heat break down ordinary paint, causing fading, chalking and micro-cracking, and the daily heating and cooling cycle widens cracks further.
Dust and pollution settle on rough surfaces and, combined with moisture, encourage black and green algae, especially on north-facing and shaded walls. Salts from ground moisture and from poor-quality sand in plaster crystallise near the base of walls and push off paint. In coastal or industrial areas, airborne chemicals attack concrete and corrode steel inside RCC members. Each of these factors calls for a specific protective response rather than a one-size-fits-all paint job.
Walk around your building and look for:
Crack repair, sealing, treatment and coating done together for lasting results.
Coatings that keep rain out but let vapour escape, preventing blistering.
Clear repellents for brick and stone, colour coatings for plaster.
Proper scaffolding or access for multi-storey façades.
Walls are washed to remove dust, pollution deposits and loose paint. Algae and fungus are treated with a biocidal wash and scrubbed off. Chalky or flaking paint is scraped back to a firm surface, and efflorescence salts are brushed away and neutralised.
Hairline cracks are filled with elastomeric filler; wider cracks are routed and sealed with flexible sealant and reinforced with mesh. Hollow or crumbling plaster is cut out and patched with polymer-modified mortar. See our wall crack repair page for details on crack types.
The joints around window and door frames, AC holes, pipe entries, sunshades and parapet copings are sealed with UV-stable polyurethane or hybrid sealants. These openings are where much of the water entering exterior walls gets in.
For exposed brick, stone and fair-faced concrete, we apply a penetrating silane-siloxane water repellent. It soaks into the pores and makes the surface shed water like a lotus leaf, while remaining invisible and breathable. This keeps the natural look of brick façades and reduces algae and salt staining.
For plastered walls, we apply a primer followed by two coats of high-build elastomeric acrylic coating. This flexible film bridges hairline cracks, resists driving rain and UV, and is available in a range of colours, including light shades that reflect heat and help keep rooms cooler.
RCC beams, columns, sunshades and balconies are protected with anti-carbonation coatings that slow the penetration of carbon dioxide and moisture, reducing the risk of steel corrosion and concrete spalling.
Cracks, damp, algae and joint condition recorded on every elevation.
Repellent, elastomeric or anti-carbonation system recommended with quote.
Washing, algae removal and loose paint scraping.
Cracks, plaster and joints repaired and sealed.
Primer and protective coats applied per specification.
Final walk-around and touch-ups before handover.
Façade protection costs depend on the size of the building, the condition of the walls and the system chosen. Wellcool surveys the building and gives a written quote after inspection rather than a guess over the phone. Factors that affect cost include:

Standard exterior emulsion paints are designed mainly for colour and appearance. They form a thin, rigid film that cracks along with the plaster and lets water through within a few seasons. Protective coatings are formulated differently: they are thicker, flexible enough to bridge hairline cracks, more resistant to UV and algae, and engineered to block liquid water while allowing vapour to escape. If you are planning to repaint anyway, upgrading to a protective system adds years to the life of the finish. For decorative work, see our exterior wall painting service.
Boundary walls are often ignored until they start to crumble. Exposed on both sides, without a roof overhang, they absorb rain from the top and ground moisture from the base. White salt bands, eroded joints and leaning sections are common. We cap the top with a sloped coping and waterproof coating, repair joints and cracks, treat the base with a damp-resistant coat and finish the surfaces with a water-repellent or elastomeric coating. Plinths around the house are sealed in the same way to stop splash-back rain from soaking the lower walls.
Protective coatings need dry walls and moderate temperatures to bond properly. In most of Punjab and KPK, the best windows are spring (February to April) and autumn (October to November). Work in peak summer is possible but is scheduled for mornings and evenings to avoid applying coatings to scorching surfaces. During the monsoon we avoid coating work because rain can wash off fresh material, though surveys and crack repairs can be planned in that period.
West-facing walls in Pakistan absorb the strongest afternoon sun and radiate heat into rooms well into the night. Choosing a light-coloured, solar-reflective elastomeric coating for these walls reduces the surface temperature and the heat passing through. Combined with roof heatproofing, this can make a noticeable difference to comfort and air conditioning use in summer.
Exterior wall protection works hand in hand with our other services: wall crack repair for structural and plaster cracks, dampness & seepage solutions for interior damp, protective coating application for roofs and concrete, exterior wall painting for decorative finishes, and residential building protection for whole-house packages.
Some of the worst façade damage starts at small horizontal surfaces. Window sills, sunshades (chajjas), parapet tops and cornices collect rainwater and dust. If they are flat or slope toward the wall, water runs back into the joint between the projection and the wall, soaking the plaster below and causing those familiar dark streaks under every window. We reshape these surfaces to slope outward, form drip grooves on the underside so water falls clear of the wall, seal the junctions and coat the tops with waterproof membrane. This small detail dramatically reduces staining and damp on the walls beneath.
In Lahore, Faisalabad, Gujranwala and other industrial cities, winter smog and vehicle emissions leave a sticky grey film on buildings. Combined with dew and fog, these deposits become mildly acidic and attack paint and lime-based plasters, while also feeding algae. Smooth, water-repellent and dirt-resistant coatings stay cleaner for longer, because rain washes the deposits off instead of letting them soak in. For commercial plazas and showrooms where appearance matters, choosing a dirt-pickup-resistant top coat makes routine façade cleaning much easier.
Every split AC installation, gas pipe, cable run and exhaust fan cuts into the outer wall. Installers often leave rough holes packed with cement or nothing at all, and condensate pipes drip directly onto the wall for months. These spots become rain entry points and stain the façade. As part of exterior protection we seal all wall penetrations with suitable sealants and collars, reroute or extend AC drain pipes to discharge away from the wall, and protect brackets from rust. It is a simple step that prevents many interior damp patches.
Once your façade is protected, a little upkeep keeps it performing. Wash off dust and bird droppings occasionally, keep plants and creepers from growing into the walls, clear gutters and parapet outlets so they do not overflow down the façade, and inspect after heavy storms for any new cracks or damaged sealant. Touch up small damaged areas promptly rather than waiting for a full repaint. Our maintenance service can include a façade check alongside the roof.
Many modern homes and plazas in Islamabad, DHA and Bahria Town areas use natural stone cladding, porcelain tiles or decorative brick slips on the front elevation. These finishes look durable, but water often enters through cracked or open grout joints and collects behind the cladding, causing efflorescence, staining and loose tiles. We re-grout or seal open joints, treat porous stone with a clear penetrating repellent and seal the cladding edges at windows and parapets, so the façade keeps its premium look and stays firmly bonded.

If the damp is caused by rain entering through the outside wall, yes. Sealing cracks and joints and applying a water-repellent or elastomeric coating stops rain penetration. If the damp comes from rising ground moisture or plumbing, those sources need separate treatment, which we identify during the survey.
Yes. Clear silane-siloxane water repellents penetrate the surface without changing its colour or texture. They make brick and stone shed water and reduce algae and salt stains while keeping the original look.
It is a thick, flexible acrylic coating that stretches with the wall as it expands and contracts. It bridges hairline cracks, resists driving rain and UV, and is available in many colours. It is far more protective than ordinary exterior emulsion paint.
Lifespan depends on the system, the surface preparation and exposure. Properly applied protective systems generally last much longer than ordinary paint. Regular cleaning and touch-ups of damaged spots extend life further.
Yes. We wash the walls with a biocidal solution, scrub off the growth and then apply coatings with anti-algal properties. Keeping the surface water-repellent is the best way to stop algae returning.
