Waterproofing + heatproofing
Multan, the City of Saints in southern Punjab, is famous for its shrines, its blue pottery, its mangoes and its heat. Summer temperatures in Multan regularly climb into the high 40s and can touch 50°C, and the sun shines on rooftops for long hours from April to September. Hot, dusty winds and sudden dust storms sweep across the city in early summer. Rain is far less frequent than in northern Punjab, but when the monsoon arrives it often comes as short, very heavy showers that find every weakness in a sun-damaged roof. Wellcool provides roof waterproofing in Multan that is designed first and foremost to survive this extreme heat, because in Multan the sun destroys more roofs than the rain does.
A concrete roof in Multan goes through huge daily temperature swings. It cracks, its old coatings dry out and peel, and when rain finally falls it pours straight into the slab. Our approach is to inspect the roof, repair the damage properly, and apply flexible, UV-resistant systems, very often finished with a white reflective coating that keeps the top floor noticeably cooler. Most people think of waterproofing as protection from rain, but in Multan the real enemy is heat. A bare RCC slab in June can reach surface temperatures far above the air temperature. During the day the concrete expands; at night it cools and contracts. This daily movement, repeated for six months of the year, creates a network of hairline cracks across the roof and opens up joints at the parapet walls, around water tanks and along any construction joints in the slab. Ultraviolet light also attacks the surface, so cheap paints, tar and thin coatings become brittle, chalky and finally peel away.
Dust adds to the damage. Fine dust blown in by hot winds and storms settles into cracks and drains, blocks outlets and abrades coatings. Then, during the monsoon, Multan can receive a large amount of rain in a single spell. Blocked drains cause water to pond on the roof, and it soaks into the cracks the heat has created. Winter brings fog and the occasional light shower, keeping moisture in the slab. The result is leaks, damp ceilings, peeling paint and, over time, corrosion of the steel inside the roof.
We work on roofs right across Multan and the surrounding district, including:
Homeowners in Multan often tell us their roof was fine all summer and then leaked badly in the first monsoon shower. That is because the heat damage happens silently. The cracks open in May and June, but nothing shows inside until it rains. Common signs to check for before the monsoon include:
In Multan we strongly recommend treating heat and water as one problem. A waterproof membrane stops rain, but if it is left exposed to the full Multan sun it ages faster. A white solar-reflective top coat reflects a large share of the sunlight that would otherwise be absorbed by the roof. That keeps the slab cooler, reduces the daily expansion and contraction that causes cracks, protects the membrane from UV, and makes top-floor rooms more comfortable. Families often notice that fans and air conditioners do not have to work as hard.
For roofs that need more heat reduction, we can add an insulation layer as part of a complete heatproofing system. You can read more on our roof heatproofing, heat-resistant roof coating, roof heat insulation and residential roof temperature reduction pages.
This is our standard choice for flat roofs in Multan. Applied in several coats with fabric reinforcement at cracks and joints, it creates a seamless, stretchy layer that can move with the slab through extreme daily temperature changes without splitting. We use products suitable for high temperatures and strong sunlight.
Some coatings combine waterproofing and solar reflectance in one system. On roofs in reasonable condition, this can be an efficient way to stop leaks and cut heat together. We check the surface first to make sure it is suitable.
On roofs that will be tiled or that carry heavy foot traffic, a polymer cementitious waterproofing layer provides a durable base. It is also ideal for water tanks, which in Multan’s heat must stay leak-free and clean.
For homes and commercial buildings where heat is the main complaint, we can install insulation together with waterproofing, then protect it with a reflective or screed finish. This gives the greatest reduction in heat entering the building.

Applying coatings in the peak of a Multan summer afternoon is not ideal. Very hot surfaces can make some materials cure too fast and reduce adhesion. We plan work for early mornings and late afternoons in summer, and prefer the milder months of February to April or October to November where possible. If you want your roof ready for the monsoon, booking in spring is the best option.
We give a fixed written quotation only after inspecting the roof. Prices depend on the work involved, including:

Dust is the main maintenance issue in Multan. Sweep your roof after dust storms and keep drains clear, especially before the monsoon. A clean white reflective coating works much better than a dusty one, so washing it down occasionally with water and a soft broom helps maintain its heat-reflecting performance. Avoid using sharp tools or wire brushes on the coating.
Store spare water tanks, building material and junk elsewhere, because heavy items left on the roof damage coatings and trap water. When installing solar panels, which are increasingly popular in Multan, make sure fixings are sealed properly. Check the roof every spring and after the first heavy rain.
Many older houses in Multan have traditional roofs with thick mud (mitti) layers and brick tiles, which were used to keep rooms cooler. Over the years extra layers are often added, making the roof heavy, and once cracked these layers hold water like a sponge. We inspect such roofs carefully. Where the mud is saturated or the roof is overloaded, we may recommend removal and replacing it with modern waterproofing and insulation, which keeps the house cool without the weight.
We also provide cool roof treatment, reflective roof coating, industrial shed heatproofing, water tank waterproofing, bathroom waterproofing, wall crack repair, roof leakage repair and exterior painting in Multan.
From Multan we also serve Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rahim Yar Khan, Sahiwal and Jhang. See our locations page for more.
Multan is a major centre for cotton, mangoes and other agricultural produce, and the district has many warehouses, cold stores, ginning factories and processing units. Their large roofs face the same heat and dust as homes, but leaks can damage stock worth far more than the repair. Steel sheet roofs on these buildings need sealed fasteners and overlaps, and benefit greatly from a reflective coating to cut heat. Concrete roofs need joint and crack treatment followed by a heavy-duty membrane. We plan industrial work in phases to keep operations running.
As families grow, many Multan homes add a new storey or a room on the roof. The joint between the old slab and the new construction is one of the most common leak points we find, because the two parts move differently in the heat. Plaster cracks along the junction, water enters during the monsoon and runs down the inside of the walls. When we waterproof such roofs we treat these junctions as movement joints, using flexible sealants and reinforced membrane so the roof can expand and contract without opening up. If you are planning an extension, it is far easier and cheaper to include proper waterproofing during construction than to fix leaks afterwards.
The same applies to new houses. Ask your builder to waterproof the roof slab before any tiles or screed are laid, and to provide enough slope and outlets. If this was not done, we can still waterproof the finished roof, but preparation takes more work.
A leaking roof is more than a stain on the ceiling. Every time water enters the slab it reaches the steel reinforcement inside, and in Multan’s hot climate wet steel rusts quickly. Rust expands and cracks the concrete from inside, which eventually causes spalling, where pieces of concrete fall from the ceiling. Good waterproofing keeps the slab dry, protects the steel and extends the life of the whole building.

Because the extreme summer heat cracks roofs and destroys weak coatings, so when monsoon rain does arrive it enters easily. Multan’s rain often comes in short, heavy spells, and blocked dusty drains cause ponding. Waterproofing protects against these few but damaging events and also against long-term moisture damage to the slab.
A solar-reflective white coating reflects much of the sunlight that would otherwise heat the roof, so less heat passes into the rooms below. The improvement depends on the roof and building, but top-floor rooms generally feel cooler. Combined with insulation, the effect is greater.
Yes, but we avoid the hottest hours. In summer we work early in the morning and later in the afternoon so the surface is not too hot for proper adhesion and curing. Spring and autumn are the most comfortable seasons for roof work.
If the mud layer is cracked, saturated or very heavy, removing it is often the best option. Modern waterproofing with reflective coating or insulation can keep the house cool without the weight. If the layer is sound, we may treat the surface instead. We decide after inspection.
Dust blocks drains, settles in cracks and reduces the reflectivity of white coatings. It can also wear down poor-quality coatings. Sweeping the roof and clearing drains after storms, and occasionally washing the coating, keeps it working well.
Yes. We seal fasteners, overlaps and ridges and apply a flexible coating that can also reflect heat. This helps keep stored goods dry and reduces temperatures inside sheds.
Yes. Ideally install the stands before or during waterproofing so we can seal every fixing. If panels are added later, ask the installer to seal their fixings or call us to detail them properly.
