Bathrooms are the wettest rooms in any building. Every day, water from showers, taps, toilets, washing machines and floor cleaning runs across the floor and splashes against the walls. If the bathroom was not waterproofed properly during construction — or if the original waterproofing has failed over time — that water slowly soaks into the floor screed, wall plaster and even the concrete slab below. The result is familiar to almost every household in Pakistan: damp patches on the wall behind the bathroom, peeling paint in the bedroom next door, and brown water stains on the ceiling of the room downstairs.
At Wellcool, we specialise in bathroom and washroom waterproofing services in Pakistan for houses, apartments, hotels, hostels, offices, hospitals and commercial buildings. We find the real source of the seepage — whether it is a cracked floor, a failed tile joint, a leaking concealed pipe or a poorly sealed drain — and treat it with waterproofing systems designed for constant wet use. Whether you are building a new home or renovating an old washroom, our team makes sure the water stays inside the bathroom and never reaches your walls and ceilings again.
Unlike a roof, which gets wet mainly during rain, a bathroom floor is exposed to water several times every single day. Even a small hairline crack or an open tile joint allows water to enter. Because the moisture is hidden under tiles, most people only notice the problem after it has spread — when the wall in the next room starts to bubble, or the ceiling below begins to drip.
In Pakistan, many bathrooms are built with tiles laid directly on a sand-cement bed without any proper waterproofing membrane underneath. Tile grout is not waterproof; it absorbs water and cracks over time. Once water reaches the bed beneath the tiles, it spreads sideways into walls and downward into the slab. Constant moisture weakens plaster, causes efflorescence (white salt deposits), encourages black fungus and can even corrode the steel reinforcement in the slab. In multi-storey homes and apartments, a leaking bathroom on the upper floor can damage the ceiling, electrical wiring and furniture of the floor below — and lead to disputes between neighbours.
Watch for these warning signs in and around your bathroom:
Treating the symptom without fixing the cause is the main reason bathroom repairs fail. During inspection, we check for all the common causes:
No membrane under the tiles: The most common cause in older buildings. Water passes straight through grout into the floor bed.
Failed tile grout and joints: Cement grout cracks and washes out over time, especially around the shower area and floor drain.
Leaking floor trap or drain: If the joint between the floor trap and the slab is not sealed, water leaks around the drain instead of into it.
Concealed pipe leaks: Hidden supply and drainage pipes inside walls or floors can crack or loosen at joints, constantly feeding moisture into the structure.
Poor floor slope: When the floor does not slope correctly towards the drain, water stands in corners and soaks in.
Unsealed wall-floor junction: The corner where wall meets floor is a weak point that needs reinforcement during waterproofing.
We identify whether the problem is the floor, grout, drain or a hidden pipe before suggesting any work.
Our applicators are trained in wet-area waterproofing, detailing corners, drains and pipe penetrations correctly.
We use flexible cementitious, polyurethane and polymer membranes designed for constant water exposure.

A two-component, polymer-modified cementitious coating is applied on the floor and up the walls before new tiles are laid. It bonds strongly with concrete and plaster, stays slightly flexible to bridge hairline cracks, and provides a reliable waterproof layer under tiles. This is our most commonly used system for new and renovated bathrooms.
For bathrooms with higher risk — such as large shower areas, wet rooms, or bathrooms above bedrooms and living rooms — we apply a seamless liquid membrane. It cures into a rubber-like layer with no joints, offering excellent protection even if minor movement occurs in the slab.
Most bathroom leaks start at junctions. We reinforce wall-floor corners with fillets and fabric, seal around floor traps with special collars, and treat every pipe penetration with flexible sealant. This detailing is the difference between a bathroom that stays dry for years and one that starts leaking again within months.
When tiles are firmly bonded and the main problem is failed grout, we can remove old grout and refill joints with waterproof epoxy grout. Epoxy grout does not absorb water, resists stains and fungus, and gives the bathroom a cleaner look. This is a faster, less disruptive solution where suitable.
Where removing tiles is not possible and seepage is coming through the floor, we can inject specialised chemicals through small drilled holes in the joints. The chemical fills voids beneath the tiles and blocks the water path. This method is used selectively after inspection.
We check the bathroom, adjoining walls and the ceiling below, and test pipes and drains if needed.
We explain whether full re-tiling, epoxy grouting or injection is right and share a written quote.
Old tiles and bed are removed where required, leaking pipes are repaired and the surface is levelled.
Primer and waterproofing membrane are applied on the floor and up the walls, with corners reinforced.
The floor is flooded for a ponding test to confirm there is no leakage before tiling.
Tiles are laid with proper slope and sealed joints, and the bathroom is cleaned and handed over.
The best time to waterproof a bathroom is during construction, before the tiles are laid. It costs very little compared to the total cost of the bathroom, yet it prevents years of problems. If you are building a new home in Pakistan, ask your contractor to include proper wet-area waterproofing in every bathroom, kitchen and laundry area — or contact Wellcool to handle it for you. We coordinate with your plumber and tile fixer so the membrane, drains and tiles work together as one system.
The cost of bathroom waterproofing depends on several factors, which is why we always prefer to inspect first:
Treating the problem properly the first time is always cheaper than repeating repairs every year. Call or WhatsApp us on 0321-4156036 for an inspection and accurate quote.
Bathrooms are not the only wet areas in a home. Kitchens with sinks and dishwashers, laundry areas with washing machines, ablution areas in mosques and offices, and outdoor wash areas on rooftops all face the same daily exposure to water. Seepage from a kitchen sink cabinet can damage the wall behind it, while a laundry area on an upper floor can leak into the room below exactly like a bathroom. Wellcool applies the same wet-area waterproofing systems to all of these spaces. If you are renovating several areas at once, treating them together saves time and cost, and ensures every water point in the house is protected to the same standard.
Houses and bungalows: Upper-floor bathrooms are the most common source of ceiling seepage in Pakistani homes. We treat them so ceilings and walls of the rooms below stay dry.
Apartments and flats: In apartment buildings, a leaking bathroom affects neighbours directly. We work neatly and quickly, coordinate with building management, and keep noise and dust to a minimum.
Hotels, hostels and guest houses: These buildings have many bathrooms in constant use. We plan the work room by room so the business can continue operating.
Offices, hospitals and schools: Washrooms in commercial and institutional buildings handle heavy daily use. We recommend durable membranes and epoxy grout that withstand frequent cleaning.
Damp walls and floors are not just a cosmetic problem. Constant moisture encourages black mould and fungus, which release spores into the air. For children, elderly family members and anyone with asthma or allergies, living with hidden dampness can make breathing problems worse. A properly waterproofed bathroom dries quickly after use, stays cleaner, smells fresher and is far less likely to develop fungus in corners and grout lines. Combined with good ventilation, waterproofing makes the whole home healthier.
Many households try to solve bathroom seepage by applying white cement over the grout, painting a sealer on top of tiles, or simply repainting the damp wall in the next room. These quick fixes may hide the problem for a few weeks, but they do not stop water from travelling beneath the tiles. Soon the patch returns — often larger than before. Real waterproofing means stopping water at the source with a continuous membrane, sealed drains and properly detailed corners. That is the approach Wellcool follows on every bathroom we treat.
Bathroom seepage often appears alongside other moisture problems. Wellcool also provides roof waterproofing, wall & ceiling waterproofing, leakage & seepage treatment, water tank waterproofing and crack filling & repair. Not always. If the tiles are firmly bonded and the problem is limited to grout or joints, we can use epoxy grouting or chemical injection without removing tiles. If the tiles are hollow, cracked or the bed beneath is saturated, removing them and applying a proper membrane is the long-term solution. We decide after inspection.
A standard bathroom usually takes three to five days when re-tiling is included, allowing time for removal, repair, membrane curing, ponding test and tiling. Epoxy grouting without re-tiling can often be completed in one to two days.
The bathroom being treated cannot be used during the work. If your home has another bathroom, you can continue using it normally. We plan the schedule to minimise inconvenience.
If the seepage is caused by the bathroom, yes — once the bathroom is sealed, the wall will gradually dry out. After it is fully dry, the wall can be repaired and repainted. We may also recommend wall treatment if salts have damaged the plaster.
During inspection we check for pipe leaks. If a concealed pipe is leaking, it must be repaired before waterproofing. Our team can coordinate the pipe repair as part of the job.
Yes. It is far cheaper to waterproof a bathroom before tiles are laid than to repair seepage later. We strongly recommend wet-area waterproofing in every new bathroom, kitchen and laundry area.
